THE OLD VS THE NEW

It's a given that I don't spend big bucks on new clothes, as much as I would obviously love to. Being an independent twenty three year old that has NOT  got their shit together means I have to save my money for the future, instead of buying that pretty dress on Zara's A/W lookbook. This has meant that I've learnt some nifty tips and tricks on making an outfit current and 'on trend', so I thought I'd share a few pointers with you...

It's all about shopping second hand. I know I know, you've just rolled your eyes and sighed because I've painted myself as some trendy hipster. But seriously, don't knock it till you've tried it, I've found some of my favourite ever pieces in charity shops. I admit I have a rather love/hate relationship with them, as they can often be over priced and not genuine vintage (I think I rolled my eyes at myself then). I mean come on, don't stock last season Primark in the 'Vintage Finds' section of your charity shop, because that's just taking the piss and us savvy shoppers are not that bloody dumb. But, when I'm on cloud nine and striking lucky then I really enjoy finding those one-off items that are unique and cool.

I wanted to show you how I style the old with the new, by teaming this new in Topshop dress with three vintage pieces. THREE VINTAGE PIECES you say?!  Yeah that's right, who'd have thought it?! This outfit is an autumnal dream that could of definitely been picked up from the high street for triple the amount I scored it for.

I knew this cute little check dress needed something underneath for layering, and a roll neck made for the ultimate sixties essential for this look - £2, Sue Ryder, yes please.

As my pins are on full display (because I'm an idiot) I needed some upper body warmth which is where my brown faux fur jacket came in handy. I purchased this from a charity shop in Slough of all places, for a nifty £5. What did I ever do to deserve such luck?

Lastly, this outfit is tied together with a very lovely mini handbag I got for 50p, that's probably cheap than a fucking freddo.

DRESS - TOPSHOP | ROLL NECK - VINTAGE | COAT - VINTAGE | BAG - VINTAGE | SUNGLASSES - RAY BAN | BOOTS - TOPSHOP BOUTIQUE

Have I changed your mind on shopping second hand yet?

It's fun to mix and match items together, it makes the new look retro, and gives the old a new lease of life. It's also really fun to save money and spend more on food, that's the truth...

Honestly though, It's so hard to keep up to date with current trends when you're on a strict budget. I would love to just roll on into Zara and buy a shed load of A/W gear, but I can't allow myself to do that. What I can do though, is buy myself the odd new season item and wear it with something already hiding in my wardrobe. I can easily pop in to a couple of charity shops and buy a handful of clothes, and this outfit goes to show that it's totally do able and still fashionable. Roll necks and fluffy coats are always a winter must-have, so why not take a trip to your local high-street and swap H&M for Oxfam. Don't forget that you'll also be supporting your local charity while you're at it, and that's not a bad thing, is it?

VINTAGE SHOPPING WITH LOOT | 26.10.16

Let's flash black a few weeks to the when I was invited down to Loot in central Bristol for some photoshoot fun. I wrote a post about the perfectly retro store they've created here if you want to see whats inside the vintage heaven for yourself. As well as writing up a little post, I spent the day shooting some looks for their website, where you can shop till you drop. I wanted to share some of the images with you so you can have a browse and see what's up for grabs!

Wilderness Green Vintage Silk Shirt

Russell Athletic Philly Eagles Sports Sweatshirt

Jansport Virginia Tech Vintage College Sweatshirt

Rodeo Tasselled Denim Blazer Jacket

Get a load of that vintage goodness! The website holds so many one-off pieces for you to own, so make sure to have a scroll through their New In section to see the new pieces they've sourced. My personal favourite has got to be the ridiculously cool Rodeo Tasselled jacket which has clearly been pulled straight out of the 90's, I bet my mother had one just like this. I also have a connection with the Russell Athletic Philly Eagles sweater, maybe that's due to my love of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, but either way it's a super cool sweat that needs to be worn with retro kicks and the lightest pair of Levis you can find.

If that wasn't good enough, I've gone back for another round! So don't worry, I'll be keeping you updated on more from the glorious Loot. Prepare for more vintage garms coming your way!

THREE DAYS IN LONDON | 6.6.16

It was about time I had a break from the norm and have a little get away if only for a few days. It was a joint decision from me and my best(and boy)friend, who was also massively up for some time off. London isn't quite as adventurous as New York or as warm as a beach in Greece but it's something. I'll go anywhere and no matter now many times I've been to London i'll always enjoy it, even more so in good company.

We were lucky enough to stay in Stockwell which was the perfect location to relax in after a hectic day in the centre of all the madness. Suprisingly, on the journey there you can actually enjoy a quiet tube ride after the Victoria stop had past, what a luxury! Thanks to Kierans brother we got to rest out heads in his lovely home just a few shorts minutes from the tube. He left out breakfast for us in the morning and gave us great recommendations for coffee and breakfast spots in Brixton, which was handy as the pair of us can't function without a cup in the morning. It felt like our own Airbnb and if their home was listed I'd be giving you all a link and them a great review with many stars, thank you for the stay!

On our first day we did the real mainstream thing and took ourselves to Oxford Street for some high street shopping. Being two Topshop and Topman workers we had to see what the flagship had to offer, it's sort of our duty. Before getting too wrapped up in shopping we headed to The Diner on Carnaby Street which is where I usually go to stock up on carbs for a big day ahead as they do a mean plate of pancakes which is surprisingly hard to find back in Bristol. We just shopped, shopped and shopped some more until all of the viscose shirts had been browsed then headed back to our tempery home for a plate of home cooked food and a decent nights sleep.

Day two was sure to be a good one as we were finally about to feast our eyes on The Rolling Stones exhibition, Exhibitionism. Without sounding like too much of an obsessed fan, I have honestly never been so excited for anything else, ever. You don't have to be a genius to know that The Stones are one of my greatest passions in life, it's pretty fucking obvious. I've planned a post about the exhibition in full which should be posted in the upcoming week so I won't go on any further, but if you are a mega fan then head to the Saatchi Gallery pronto!

After an emotional hour and a half of gallery viewing we headed in the direction of Southbank for a stroll along the riverside and a quick pop into Tate Modern, and by that I mean quick enough for me to use the bathroom and to walk around a couple of rooms. It didn't quite hit the spot the same way Exhibitionism did, sorry modern art. We did end up in yet another Topshop though where I scored some amazing flared dungarees, which I was very much feeling after seeing Keith's tour wardrobe earlier that day, swings and roundabouts!

Another day with a crazy amount of walking done and all we could think about was food, which to be fair is what we think about 80% of the time anyway. Kev (Kierans brother) recommended a pizza joint in Brixton called Franco Manca which sounded amazing and definitely met our expectations. It was located within a market in the heart of the ever cool Brixton and despite being in London it had a real authentic feel to it, if you didn't look at your surroundings too much it genuinely felt like being back in Rome. The Pizza, more importantly, was unreal. So unreal that Kieran stated it was the 'best he'd ever eaten' and that's coming from a man whose had plenty in his lifetime. For me, it was up there and that's coming from a girl whose tasted real Italian baked circles of doughy goodness straight from the heart of Italy. Basically, we highly recommend it. We ended the night having a drink in some trendy new bar in Brixton that I didn't catch the name of but Kieran had a Ziggy Stardust cocktail that impressed us a great deal despite it should of being called Aladdin Sane...

Our final day in London featured a trip to the eastern side of town where we ended up wondering around Shoreditch for most of the day. Like complete 'hipsters', we went to all of the vintage stores that are plonked in the Brick Lane area. They didn't have much to offer other than a motorcycle print shirt for yours truly, I'm also still dreaming about a pair of Led Zeppelin shorts I saw that had been crafted from an old tour t-shirt, I really regret not slipping my butt into those babies.

Day three came to an end and it was time to get head back home in style via Megabus, hoorah! It was a glorious few days away from our busy lives and it gave us time to be in a romantic holiday bubble for short while. Time to plan our next adventure and this time make it longer and hotter!

STYLE UP WITH TOPSHOP #1 | 8.11.15

Now that I'm a Topshop employee I've become rather obsessed with browsing the site every single day, It's part of my job I guess? With that comes all sorts of wants but mostly needs, I really do need about 80% of the store at the moment I swear! With that being said I thought I'd start up a new post in which I'd style up some pieces from Topshop and Topman as I do dream of becoming a stylist one day, so this will be like a really crappy digital version of that which will help you and I get fashion inspiration and also find items we just need in our wardrobes - stat! Now, let's talk about outfit #1...

I can't start without talking about this mad 70's zebra print shirt in all of it's glory because it is in fact glorious. As it's a monochrome piece it needed a spot of colour from the skirt and the purple pop is just what it needs, the suede fabric is also pretty on point for the current seasons trend. Suede, suede and more suede - fine by me! I love the stitch detailing along the side, it adds a unique touch and helps bring in a western vibe, switch the zebra pattern for a plain white shirt and cowboy boots with an added neck-tie and you're away. With this outfit though we're keeping it retro and doing so with some 70's accessories like a super skinny scarf and a flimsy black boater hat.

Mixing more materials together I thought of placing a leather studded belt to wrap around the skirt as I'd tuck the shirt into my bottoms to make the most of the skirt. Also adding more leather with the perfect black booties which are pretty much good for any outfit.

To add a little more colour you could go for a bold lip, I'm thinking the shade 'Watermelon' would look super sassy but if you're more into a subtle shade try a toned down red in the colour 'Freak'.

AUGUST HAUL | 6.9.15

I've just uploaded my monthly haul! It's not the most exciting collection of items I've ever hauled but there you go. I've been a little quiet on the blogging front this week due to me not feeling too well, as you can tell from this video I have a stinking cold and because I'm pathetic I've been moping about in my PJ's on my sofa for the past few days - tragic. I have got a new outfit posting coming tomorrow though so I'll be back to my usual self soon!

Anyway, enjoy the haul and apologize again it's a little basic. Subscribe if you enjoyed and anything you need to know will be in the down-bar below!

DAY IN THE LIFE #1

16TH MAY 2015
LIFESTYLE
LOCATION: BRISTOL @ THE TRIANGLE

I've been in Bristol for over a month now and strolling about finding all the best spots have made for the ultimate day out. Seriously though, what more could you want than a day consisting of browsing the shops, having some lunch, resting those tired legs in a pretty park and stopping for coffee on the regular, not much really! That's what most of mine and Dan's date days consist of and we always look forward to them.

As we're still pretty new to the area we have a lot of places left to discover and we plan to jump on a bus whenever we can to explore our little hearts out, that £17 a week bus ticket does have to come to some use after all. We ended up heading to a place known as The Triangle after passing there after we hunted out a Gumtree seller who sold us our coach. We went through in our hefty transit van and were drawn in by the sight of independent shops and quirky cafes, so it definitely made the top of our 'To Explore' list.

We aimed to head out by breakfast that day but you know how it is, plans fail when it comes to waking up early on your day off... So, by noon we finally exited our front door and hoped on a bus to search out the place we went past a few weeks back. Thank goodness for Google Maps because we would of been hella lost without it! We found it once again and immediately stopped for something to eat as we did end up skipping breakfast. We went straight for the wonders that was an all you can eat Chinese, Indian with a bit of British comfort food and sushi thrown in too (I know, it sounds too good to be true doesn't it?) because how could you not - spoiler alert IT WAS AMAZING. We both had a couple of plates but were eventually defeated and needed to walk off our carb infested bellies with a walk around some shops. We stumbled across a very cool record store called Rise Revival which also sells books, clothing and art work. We purchased a few bits for our home and of course ourselves.

After a wonder around and a coffee in our system we ended up being drawn towards a group of teenage skaters having a quick ten minute skate around on their breaks from the day job. There's something about skating that is incredible to watch, the thrill and the cool vibes that come with it make for great entertainment, especially with a few bails.

We initially wanted to go out on the search for Banksy art work but got a little sidetracked with everything else we came across. Luckily we found a couple on our way, including the Wall Hanger. We're not massive Banksy fans but it was actually great to see some of his work first hand and when in Bristol, you've got to hunt out at least one of his pieces.

I'm hoping you liked the idea of this sort of post as I plan on doing a lot more in the future. I also picked up my vlogging camera yesterday when in the middle of writing this, I must of had too much inspiration flowing about my brain as that could potentially be bad idea. Stay tuned on my YouTube channel for that and for more of these lifestyle posts!
