THE TURNER EFFECT | 9.10.16

During the summer I went to see The Last Shadow Puppets in concert as part of Bristol Summer Series. I had the most amazing time singing along to their hits like 'Miracle Aligner', 'Sweet Dreams, TN' and eyeing up Miles Kane whenever I stupidly thought he was looking at me. Can you blame a girl for trying? It was a fun night filled with many attempts to get Alex Turner to throw us his jacket and some idiots shouting 'Kane-oh!' every five minutes, and although I was there for the music that I've been a fan of for years, I was also there to see the marvellous human that is Turner grace the stage.

These days it seems like people have a problem with Turner, saying he's too cocky for his own good and that he's lost his spark, but I think he's just getting started. His time at Bristol Summer Series and later at Glastonbury proved he is not only a ridiculously talented musician, but the perfect frontman. His stage presence is everything I want from a performer - he has so much charisma and banter, it's hard to take your eyes off him when he's serenading you from his platform. He knows he's cocky and I think he exaggerates it because he enjoys the theatrical element of it all, it's a performance and he's milking it while he can.

His cheeky attitude is perfectly matched by his out-there style. When I saw him he wore an outfit very similar to the one he wore at Glastonbury this year. The outfit was custom made by Ray Brown, a stagewear designer for rock and rollers like Tony Iommi, Judas Priest and Muse. Brown fashioned Turner a white blazer to throw over a skimpy vest that tucked into a pair of cropped, flared suit trousers. On his feet he wore a pair of what looked like Gucci loafers and topped it all off with a pair of sleazy tinted aviators. He didn't keep his jacket on for long as it was restricting him from getting his groove on, so he slung it around in the air and propped it on his shoulder from time to time. This outfit has really stuck with me since and I can't help but take elements of it and make it my own.

In the wake of this I've put together an outfit inspired by the man himself. My t-shirt isn't similar to one he's worn but it is a title and lyric from one of my favourite Shadow Puppets songs - Everything You've Come to Expect (if that wasn't obvious). I know he'd enjoy my metallic pink wannabe Gucci loafers as he always has a pair on his feet. Since wearing them I've been reminded how much I love them, and these Topshop ones have been on my radar for months. They come in a silly amount of colours and styles to chose from. Online, Topshop has a range of animal print, other metallics and the classic black leather. I've had my eye on the heeled versions that have come out recently, so similar to the works of Gucci but at a fraction of the price.

Talking of items I've recently fallen for, let's move onto my jacket. This faux fur M&S coat is supposed to be a Christmas present from my mother, but I sweet-talked her into letting me have it early - thanks mum! When jacket season comes around I'm often wearing faux fur and I try to purchase a couple of new ones every season because although they never go out of style, I like to have a wardrobe refresh and something new to wear. Coats take up most of your winter outfit so having one that makes a statement is a must, and this emerald green number surely does that, not that my shoe choice doesn't already!

I'm always inspired by how musicians dress, Turner being no exception. I've admired his style since the beginning when he wore indie polo-shirts and ill-fitting jeans like we all did in the early noughties, so even I thought it was cool back then. But now, in the more recent days he's evolved into a serious style king with his two most recent looks. The first being the tight leather jacket, short jeans and quiffed up hair, to the current over-the-top eighties inspired suiting and oversized collared shirts.. For years his style has been one that I've watched closely, mainly due to my massive crush but also because he can do no wrong when putting an outfit together, whether that's a thank-you to his stylist or the man himself I don't know. Either way, kudos!

GIRLS IN GRIMMY | 26.10.15

I've walked past the Nick Grimshaw x Topman range nearly everyday since the launch on October 15th and it's been a painful couple of weeks let me tell you that. I fell in love with it when seeing a little sneak peek on social media after the preview party back in June. Monochrome goodness and leopard print at it's finest, It was obviously going to make me weak at the knees with all those rock star vibes. I read somewhere that he wanted it to be the kind of clothes a posh boy wants to wear to look scruffy and I love that idea, who wants to look prim and proper all the time? It makes me think of some teen that wants to go out and be a little naughty for the night and he should do it in one Grimmys patterned shirts instead of his freshly ironed Oxford. Go on, be a little messy and untuck that shirt.

Shirt - Topman, waistcoat - Vintage, jeans - Newlook, boots - Asos (Depop), hat - eBay, necklace - Topman, rings - Bloody Mary Metal

With the range being a pretty big hit in the men's department I had to put my spin on it by being my usual self and wear clothing 'made' for the opposite sex, and why the hell not? 'But it's a mans shirt' you say, blah blah blah I really don't care and neither should you. I think it's bad ass and I will wear it no matter what, fashion is about wearing what you want and how could I pass up this shirt? Well I couldn't, OK? Men's or women's if you like it, don it. Also, did you see Harry Styles wearing it? Of course that's going to make me want to wear it even more than I already did. I do wonder what Nick himself would think of a woman wearing or promoting his clothes though, would it be bad for his line or would he think it was cool? I like to think he'd enjoy it as much as I do because lets get real, gender isn't needed for a t-shirt or in general.

The collection looked dreamy on both Nick and Harry and it's completely my sort of thing too. I love the leopard print coat so much I've had it looming over me for days now but am still yet to press the 'Buy Now' button which is what I usually do when I love something on a high level, thinking about an piece of clothing night and day is ridiculous but it is the jacket of my dreams, quite literally. As for the item I did go ahead and purchase though, I adore it and it's taken centre stage in my large stash of shirts. The shirt screams Styles so I really did have to wear my glitter booties with it, I tried to steer away but I just couldn't, it needed some brightness with a little girlie - grunge added to the mix, (these are all excuses if you couldn't tell) the perfect combination.

I do like Nick Grimshaw and let's face it his personal style is on point and totally the male version of mine at times so I was certainly going to be a supporter of his Topman range from the start. He really has out done himself and created some great one-off pieces that also make great outfits when put together, which is something I really like about it. You could wear any of the tops under any of the jackets and you're sorted.

Now listen Mr Grimshaw, although I don't have man-size feet I do think it's time you brain stormed some shoes because I'm sure they'll be just as rad as the rest of it. I'm thinking leather rocker booties that would make any indie band member proud to be seen in?! Time to get scrap booking!

A FEW OF MY FAVOURITE THINGS | 19.10.15

No, this isn't a favourites post it's just an outfit that I'm loving from head-to-toe! I'm so feeling the neck scarf trend at the moment, not that it needed to become a trend for me to enjoy it. I've always been a wearer of scarves, I often wear one tied loosely round instead of tight like this but either way I'm all for it. I do remember my friend Ash telling me I looked like I was in a cult though, I guess wearing a Dre shirt doesn't help now either. I am forever expanding my bandanna collection at the risk of looking like a gang member.

Tee - Depop (similar), jeans - Primark, leather jacket - Primark, boots - Vintage, neck scarf - Claire's Accessories, sunglasses - Topshop.

Another current love of mine are these boots which were an amazing second-hand find, how old fashioned (in a good way) are these? They were at the ridiculous price of £3 too, absolute steal! They look rad with a pair of tight black jeans and remind me of the 'sock' boots I've seen around recently. No idea what I'm on about? Check out these shoes from Topshop to see what on earth I'm referring too. Cool right? Totally laid-back and comfy! These ones are a little special with the added patient leather grid detailing covering the outside which adds quite a quirky touch and makes them even more old-school and have you seen that heel? Totally something grandma Carpenter would don.

It obviously goes without saying that black jeans and leather jackets are two of my favourite things also.

PS. It wasn't intentional for me to have one pant leg rolled up and the other down, that's not some kind of look I rock on a daily basis, I was experimenting and completely forgot about it which is hilarious but so annoying. If you didn't notice then I'm an idiot for pointing it out but just in case you did and are sat thinking WTF then there you have it, I'm just that forgetful.

A HOMAGE TO THE KINGS FOR LONDON FASHION WEEKEND | 28.9.15

On Friday I took a trip to the capital for London Fashion Weekend, the part of fashion week that's a little more toned down and tame - basically a celebration that all the not as cool people can enjoy, I'm talking about purely myself here. I'm yet to experience LFW but hey, there's always next year am I right?! Experiencing just a little part of it was great fun though, seeing designers collections and a catwalk show along with dozens of stylish people was seriously inspiring. But I'll save that for my next post, for now it's all about the OOTD I wore for such occasion.

Dress - Missguided (similar), belt - Missguided, shoes - eBay (Asos originally), denim jacket - Depop, ring - Bloody Mary Metal.

I wanted to dress true to my style with an outfit that really reflects 'me', so rocking some gear majorly inspired by the rock 'n' roll era, that Harry Styles lad and the one and only YSL is what this chicks all about, it was sort of an homage to the greats if you will. I am and forever will be obsessed with Yves Saint Laurent and the S/S collection that we saw a few months back was so inspiring for me. I always think of velvet, stars, glitter and the rock genre when YSL comes to mind so this outfit was majorly taken from that.

On the subject of Styles and YSL - two things that go marvellously in the same sentence, these boots are my version of the many pairs of boots and trainers that Saint Laurent has come out with, the metallic gold boots that Harry wears are my all time favourite shoe that I long to own, seriously just give me all the glitter and metallic boots please! My not as fancy but still pretty bad ass booties are an Asos special that I won on eBay for £3.60 including postage, yep you did read that correctly it wasn't your mind playing tricks on you because you're tired after a long day at work, honest! I feel so sorry for the lady who sold me these because they originally retail at £45 so I am very sorry lovely lady on eBay but you have made me very happy if it makes you feel any better?

I think if I was made into a cartoon character that wore the same clothes every episode (why so cartoons never change clothes by the way?), this would be my outfit. It reflects me and my style perfectly.

DIY (AND DOUBLE, OBVIOUSLY) DENIM

27TH JULY 2015
OUTFITS
LISTENING TOO: PINK FLOYD - WAITING FOR THE WORMS ♫
Top - Forever 21, jeans - Primark, jacket - Depop, shoes - Duo, hat - Primark, socks - Primark, watch - Topshop, ring - Topman.

Remember last week when I talked all about my new obsession with DIY denim? Well here's the first installment of that phase, and boy is it a good phase indeed because this jacket is pretty rad, is it not? Pink Floyd? Obviously! I also mentioned in that post about a few finds I found on Depop, this being one of them. I scroll through on a daily basis on the attempt to find some one-off pieces, especially in the music area as my top key words on Depop seem to be 'band tees' and 'ZZ Top' - I'm trying to find a tee similar to Kate's ZZ Top shirt which she found through Depop, it needs to join my collection pronto! I'm so damn jealous.

Nevertheless I've still found a couple of gems myself including this rad denim jacket with the coolest Pink Floyd patch sewn on the back, it was all of £9 too so double win on this one! Denim is very 90's and as it's me I had to throw on a pair of the same toned denim pants, so predictable Chloe, so damn predictable. I'm such a 90's cliche but I'm head over heels for anything of that era at the moment that anything else is just going straight past me. Don't get me wrong though I still love the 60's and 70's thing but right now my true 90's kid is coming out, it's also kind of the way my dad dressed back then too but let's skip right past that...

If you're on the hunt for some customized denim then you should take to Depop, I know a lot of people have issues with it but I'm yet to find one. I've found some great stuff in among some of the not so great over priced bits and I've been happy with all of it - so far. I'm currently selling some of my old clothes over on eBay but may convert to Depop myself so if you give my page a follow then you may see some old and loved items of my own floating around on there soon!

TOMBOY

7TH MAY 2015
OUTFITS
LISTENING TOO: LED ZEPPELIN - GOING TO CALIFORNIA ♫
Top - The Cove Boutique, shorts - Depop, socks - Topman, boots - Dr Martens, sunglasses - M&S., watch - Topshop, rings - Bloody Mary Metal and Topshop

Tube socks, band tees and Doc Martens, that'll do nicely for my inner tomboy.

I feel fifteen again whenever I wear my Docs as I used to wear them everyday to school, much to my teachers dismay (such a rebel I know). They've just had their 7th birthday and they're going to have many more because I want to be one of those older ladies who still rocks a heavy metal shirt and clumpy boots, maybe even by then I'll want the grey gone and go for some mad dye job like purple or jet black and be covered in tattoos that have gone all blurred and wrinkly. I'm completely cool with all of this, growing old gracefully and all that, if gracefully means being a seventy year old grunger that is!

As for tube socks, they're my new thing. They have a sense of the nineties skate scene and I will be wearing them with Vans and Converse because of that. I found these ones in Topman as they're a rarity in any form of woman's section unless you want to pay more then eight pounds - yes Urban Outfitters I'm looking at you! They sell them in a variety of colours like blue and green with the option of length also, I quite like the idea of ankle ones with trainers so I may try those ones next.

I can't not say a lovely big thank you to my buddy Kate for popping these wonderful shorts on her Depop forever ago as I still love and wear them to this day, so thanks girl! I still manage to fit my arse in them even if with a squeeze!

Time to mention the fact I'm wearing one of the best t-shirts to enter my closet, and probably my life. Cheers to The Cove Boutique for stocking such awesome stuff that I can't help but buy. You guys just wait till you see my other one (yes I bought two) it's everything and I'm sure you wont be shocked when you see what band is on that one, I'm so obvious it's stupid. You may remember a post I did a while back featuring another item from their glorious store, if not then you can have a read of that here and see what else they have to offer on their online store or Instagramas you can buy from there too, pretty good right?!
