OK babes, it’s officially coat season! I’ve been a little on the chilly side for a whole month now and It’s just one of those things we have to get on board with when living in England. I’ve come to terms with it, and although I’m still seeing people in shorts and tank-tops, I’ve started layering ready for the bore that is A/W. I’m certainly more of a summer girl, there’s nothing I love more than sunshine on my skin and warm, lighter evenings. But, now the nights are drawing in and I’m waking up cold, it’s definitely drawing closer to winter as the days go by. So, here’s to another nine months of wearing jackets…
With that in mind, I’ve been taking to my wardrobe and re-assessing my coat situation. it’s a little bleak with nothing new insight, which means when charity shopping I’ll be rummaging the outwear first and foremost, and probably knitwear at a close second. When I did my huge donation at the beginning of August, I parted with 90% of my cold weather clothing, which means I’ll be adding some vintage knits to my closet soon. For now, I’m getting back into the groove of dressing for autumn by enjoying one of the older jackets in my closet. This piece is one that only comes out on special occasions, usually when I’m feeling a little extra. It’s kind of trashy, but also fabulous - right? The boxy fit, dusky tone and excessive amount of faux fur make it a jacket fit for South Ken. It’s a total ‘Chelsea Girl’ piece and one I’ll be getting more use out of this season.
I’m embracing the items that tend to get left behind, and this jacket was one of them. As it is kind of OTT for everyday life, I often would put it on, look in the mirror and think ‘oh boy, this isn’t the one for today’. But lately, with my new feelings towards clothing and my style, I thought why the fuck not embrace the jazzy jacket and wear it more often. I do love how it looks with a lot of my clothes, as it nods to rock and roll style and adds an edge to any look. I’ve teamed it with a seventies floral dress and cowboy boots for a Florence Welch inspired look.
I have so many jackets in my wardrobe that are dying for some attention, as I couldn’t quite let go of them when I did my clear-out. This season I’ll be adding a few more to my collection, as well as styling up my older pieces like this one. I’ll continue to donate items here and there, and when I do, I’ll be sure to search for other items I might fall in love with instead. It’s time to get with it and realise it’ll be staying under twenty degrees until further notice, so I’m on the hunt for some A/W must-haves in my local second-hand stores! Hopefully, I’ll be able to find some coats that are equally as cool as this one and if I do, you guys will be the first to know about it!
As I love sharing my new-in buys with you, I’ve pushed myself into getting on the YouTube bandwagon once more. This past weekend I’ve filmed a few videos ready to be published on my channel. So, tomorrow I’ll pop up a little thrift haul featuring some of my new finds. Stay tuned and subscribe to be notified as to when it goes live!
