I’m currently having a moment with blazers, we are going through a serious love affair and it’s not stopping anytime soon. I’ve been on the hunt for weeks now, trying to curate more for my A/W wardrobe. I haven’t had huge success, but have scored upon this bright beauty. I work in men's suiting, which means I’m surrounded by the opposite sex in a three-piece all day, every day. So, my need to rock a suit heightens daily, as to me there is nothing better than tailoring.
I’ve always been obsessed with suits, my fashion icons have been the ones to encourage me through the years and made my need to own a few grow as time has gone on. Style gods like Bowie, Elton John and every member of The Beatles have been my suiting inspo for years. Oh, and of course Harry Styles - yes, he is back! It’s not just men who pull off a good blazer or two, we’ve seen legends like Patti Smith wearing these particular pieces for decades. I’m a firm believer that all of us can embrace a bit of tailoring, suits aren’t just for the men - it’s a woman’s world now!
So, I’m slowly but surely increasing the number of blazers and pants in my closet. I’ve started with this jazzy number, adding some bold checks and bright colours into my life for a sweet change. The check itself has a very sixties feel to it, which is the way I went when styling it up. I’ve popped on a mini skirt with a pair of go-go boots, as well as a chunky headband and a very Gucci inspired neck-tie. I love the retro feel to this look, the subtle nod to the sixties with my accessories and backdrop, which also reminded me of the Harry Styles X Gucci campaign in the fish and chip shop - remember? As a brand, they seriously come through with their campaign imagery and styling, I’m crushing so hard on what they’ve produced this year!
I can’t leave without also mentioning the subtle nod to Gossip Girl, we are currently having a Blair Waldorf moment after all! It might not be The Met steps or the streets of Manhattan, but my headband and school-like blazer have a definite Upper East Side feel to it - I’ve just taken it back to a more retro era…
