I’ve always envied those girls who mix up their prints when wearing an outfit, whenever there’s a Fashion Week happening I see so many stylish ladies rocking a mixture of prints and pulling it off incredibly well. It’s not something I always do, but it is the one thing I’ve told my self to start doing more of in the New Year.
I had a lot of fun giving it a go, what with leopard print being hot on the trend list and always a must-have in my wardrobe, I had to make it the one pattern I try mixing first. I was going to go way over board and wear a different kind of animal print but quickly resisted - maybe I’ll get more confident and try it in my next outfit post! I’m always up for trying new things in terms of style, so maybe I’ll get out my zebra print coat in future.
This jacket of choice was actually a total fluke, I’d packed a weekend bag and just so happened to pop in to Primark for an umbrella (classic British weather) and came out with this coat - and yes, I obviously forgot the brolly… I’d had another printed jumper in mind for this outfit which I was fully set on wearing, but once I’d seen this jacket I thought of how much it looked like part of the latest The Kooples collection, and how they would probably style it this way too. Luckily I had all of the other parts of the outfit to build this seriously The Kooples meets All Saints look, and I think it worked out perfectly for the ultimate pattern clashing combo.
This just so happens to be my new favourite outfit, it’s cool and comfy and perfect for our current climate (minus the skimpy white vest). Accidental outfits sometimes make for the best, you don’t plan it out and it all just sort of works well in the end. I can spend ages trying to figure out a look, only for the greatest ones to be something I had never thought of before. I’m definitely going to be more experimental with my looks in the New Year, I’m going to stop myself when I have that dreaded ‘that won’t match’ idea in my head. You’d see these patterns and think they don’t even remotely go, but they actually ended up being a match made in heaven. It’s easy to become a little ‘samey’ with style, knowing what suits you and what goes well, but it’s way more fun and adventurous when you throw on something totally unexpected.
On a scale of 1-OTT, this outfit isn’t exactly out there, but give me a few months and I’ll be clashing my patterns so well I’ll be looking back and thinking ‘why the hell hadn’t I done this before’. I’ll be a pro before you know it and be coming up with looks that could give these high-end fashion babes a run for their money (maybe not but hey, I’ll try!)
