While I was putting together an outfit to help sell this vest over on my online shop, I just so happened to create my dream look, which of course now makes it even harder than it already was to part with my thrifted finds. I had to share the finished product with you because I did end up shooting way more photos than needed… Although I will be selling this top, I will certainly be wearing the remaining pieces on rotation for the foreseeable future…
I lifted my spending ban last weekend purely for these jeans, which BTW were only a measly £5.99 anyway, but it was still a treat nonetheless. I’ve actively tried to stop spending money on things I really don’t need, which is basically just fast fashion related products. I’ve been doing well, even my last post featured an incredible vintage jacket! But, with that being said it is hard to restrict yourself to purely shop ethically. I say that If we are aware of it and aim to change our habits, then it’s a bloody good way to start.
These jeans are the first thing I’ve purchased from the high-street since before Christmas, I saw them online and just had to hunt them down. Why am I so obsessed with them? Well, I once saw a photo of Drew Barrymore wearing a pair just like these and I’ve been searching for some ever since, her style from back in her younger years was truly iconic. Then of course you’ve got Penny Lane from cult classic Almost Famous with the ultimate seventies look, and another incredibly awesome lady playing the character perfectly (along with the obvious wardrobe of dreams). All of these factors came into my head when I pulled this look together, and the end result has had me swooning!
Not only did these females inspire me to rock the seventies look, (no change there anyway) but I just so happened to bag myself a vintage, literal Penny Lane coat as well. I’ve gone through a dozen of these coats throughout the years, and I’m yet to find my perfect version. I’m talking almost floor length, a lot of fluff and multi coloured paisley lining - the whole shebang! Until I treat myself to the real deal, this one is pretty great for the time being. It's a vintage number so was incredibly cheap and of course helps with my need to become more and more shopping conscious.
Then we of course have the second of my thrifted pieces which is the old Harley Davidson vest I mentioned earlier. If you’re quick you can snap it up via my Depop where it will be online this coming week! As much as I do want to keep this retro find, I want to help you guys shop more sustainable and buy second hand when you can. This is pure proof that buying used clothes doesn’t have to be boring or hard work. There’s a huge stigma around ‘vintage’ shopping, people claiming prices are too high or that they struggle to find anything decent. But, I really can’t tell you how satisfying and unique it is, and even if it is a little more expensive sometimes, it is totally worth it. What's better than wearing pieces that are individual and not available for the majority? I will always shout about my love for charity/vintage shopping, so this may sound repetitive to some, but I’m just beyond obsessed!
Almost as obsessed as I am with this outfit! You know when you get asked that fun question of ‘If you were made into a cartoon character, what would you wear?’, this would be my outfit. I would happily spend the rest of my animated life in this look!
