A current ‘must-have’ trend that is roaming the high-street is neon and bright, block colours. I’ve seen it splashed across my Instagram feed and in stores, but I’ve happened to avoid it up until now. I’m all for experimenting, as you can see from my last post where I donned a bucket hat - which again is not something I’ve ever tried before. But this time I have stayed clear and left the ultimate blogging girls to that trend, as it’s definitely more of a PLT vibe than my kind of style… That’s until this two piece arrived. I ordered this on a whim, wondering if the checks would in fact match and make for the ultimate combo. I loved each piece individually, but really wanted to create a full look with checks. They matched perfectly and looked just how I wanted when worn together. Little did I know when purchasing, that they had a slight neon stripe going through. Online it certainly didn’t look that way, but it makes the outfit pop even more!
I wanted to go for a neutral colour, influenced by the classic Burberry check. I love the cream tones mixed with the brighter greens and yellows, it’s a combination I have yet to see - which is rare when checks are literally everywhere right now! Granted, on camera the bolder stripes have turned out far more neon than they look in person, even on my phone it became far more saturated when in front of the lens, but I love the way it looks nonetheless! I also wanted to keep my shoes neutral, but add clash in there somewhere. Instead of going for a bold colour, I decided to pair it with my snake print boots for the coolest mix of prints.
I’ve made my look feel less modern by adding a my retro, square shaped sunglasses. Adding these to an outfit makes it instantly go back sixty years thanks to the yellow tinted lenses. Mixing current trends with pieces that feel more old-school helps me fit in to the mould while still being true to my personal style. I can easily buy a selection of items that are currently sought after and add my favourite accessories to make it feel more me.
Not all trends will win me over, in fact most of them don't even come close to swaying me. But when you begin to embrace the fast paced change in high-street style and go along with the new-in pieces, you learn to mix and match with what is current and your own taste in fashion. Neon was never something I loved, but having the slightest hint of it within this outfit has made it on-trend and relatable, while still being a look I adore.
