Last week I wrote a post on the fashion section of my blog titled 'Fast Fashion', and I decided to carry on the theme for a couple more features. If you're yet to read it, here's where you can find it! If one post is enough for you to read today, then here's a quick summay - I spoke about how fast fashion can be hard to afford, a struggle to keep up with and difficult to really find yourself within the must-have trends. I mean, what if I don't like gingham OR straw bags? Where do I fit in?! I then went on to talk about vintage and how important it is to invest in second hand clothing. I have a huge passion for retro pieces, so I'm spending the next few posts confessing my undying love for all things vintage.
For these posts I got to work with my favourite place to source vintage here in Manchester, Bear Heart Vintage. Infact, I purchased my all time favourite piece of outerwear here, it really is one of the best. It's located inside Afflecks on the first floor, tucked nicely inbetween many other fun shops. Honestly, Afflecks is a dream to explore. Maybe it's because I'm new here and It's still fresh and exciting, but I've found some very cool things inside of it's maze.
Vicky - the wonderful owner, let me rummage through her many rails so I could style up some outfits to help show you guys how to wear vintage, and what one of a kind pieces can be found when you put some heart into searching for it! We all know that it can take some time to find items you love when you're faced with the daunting task of hunting through endless rails, but that's what I love about Bear Heart, the staff are there to help you search for what era and style you love, and pick you pieces that they think you'd enjoy. I've seen it first hand, and it really does make a difference when vintage shopping.
I wanted to take you through some of my favourite eras, eras that I'm always inspired by when I get dressed in the morning. First up I've channeled the mod era, resembling Thomas Turgoose with the Union Jack bomber, bootcut jeans and of course my Dr Martens. This piece stood out for me as soon as I got into the shop, I love a statement jacket and these are pieces you can keep for a life time. I always invest in outwear, here in England we make a lot of use of these, so I enjoy spending money on one of a kind jackets like this one. I can't say I've seen a bomber like this before, it's the perfect over coat to make a simple outfit pop and show off your fun personality. Boring clothes won't cut it here!
That's the main reason I adore vintage, finding items that stand out and make you feel unique. I love experimenting with my style and exploring the eras I've missed out on, and where else can we really do this it it's not at second hand shops? I treasure all of my older pieces, I feel special when wearing them and knowing I'm one of a select few that have it makes it a pleasure to own!
If you hurry down to Afflecks and find Bear Heart Vintage, you yourself can own this special piece of vintage. I can't wait to show you the rest of the images I've created with my photographer babe Holly, we chose some very cool pieces to style and shoot. Check my Instagram page where I'll be slowly uploading all of the outfits soon!
