I'M WITH THE BAND

The main idea of this weeks post was to bring you images from the beach and the beauty of nature, but like I mentioned in my previous post, it was utterly freezing and couldn't bare shooting every single piece in these climates. That being said though it seemed to be for the best, and a couple of the vintage pieces hand picked by Sarah from Waiste Vintage were made to be worn indoors surrounded by retro furnishings and a guitar or two. I decided to get warm and get back to it by shooting a few more photo sets in my boyfriends family home, which happens to be swimming with old school items that made for the perfect backdrop.

I've always enjoyed the idea of a sweater vest but never found one I'd commit to wearing, as sometimes they can be a little dorky and a bit too grandpa influenced. Waiste Vintage have pulled through with this one having sourced the most glorious rainbow stripe knit which makes it a very cool version of the not so cool sleeveless jumper. This ones also got a sister, so just you wait till you see the other colour way. It's a vintage dead stock item so they're one of a kind, and certainly not something you'll find these days. You've got to love vintage!

You can't dress like a retro babe and not wear a pair of flares, agreed? My boyfriend decided to tell me I look mumsy in this specific pair, but that wont stop me from donning my favourite jeans whenever I please. Let's just say he doesn't appreciate retro things as much as me, bummer, I've finally found a fault in my perfect other half...

Anyway, I'm a total sucker for a pair of extra flared jeans no matter how much I look like my mother (I would want to look liker her any day, to be honest). These ones were bought vintage too, not from Waiste but from a little charity shop in Bristol. There's something unique about wearing an outfit that's nearly all been bought second hand, and I'm yet to find a pair of flares that fit me as good as these do - my flat arse actually looks peachy!

I've done my favourite double denim trick with my jeans and baker boy, which by the way is the ultimate accessory to nail the seventies trend! I've also clashed some pattern with my snake print boots to really top off the outfit. I was going for a 'I'm With the Band' look, a look you'd think I'd of nailed by now considering I'm surrounded by musicians fairly often.

This photo set was inspired by the back stage shots of musicians and their friends on tour by Neal Preston, a man whose work I have adored since I was a teenager. His back stage shots of Jimmy Page and Stevie Nicks are photographs that have stayed with me for years, so I took a little inspiration from him and made my own by using more colour and less musicians.
